Following the January 14 and 15 and January 25 and 26 snowstorms, which resulted in approximately 90 centimetres of snow across Toronto, the City continues snow removal operations in Ward 22 under a declared Major Snowstorm Condition.

Crews continue to make steady progress across our neighbourhoods, with a focus on safety, mobility, and maintaining access for emergency vehicles and transit.

Service Requests and Escalations

City staff continue to work closely with 311 to manage and triage snow related service requests.

For residents, non urgent snow concerns should be reported through 311. This ensures requests are properly tracked, prioritized, and addressed as efficiently as possible.

Urgent safety concerns are escalated internally by City staff to ensure timely response. Using 311 for non urgent issues helps keep emergency and priority requests moving quickly.

Snow Removal Completed

Snow removal has been completed at the following locations in Ward 22:

Major Roads

  • Warden Avenue from Metropolitan Road to Cloverleaf Gate

  • Steeles Avenue East from Kennedy Road to Victoria Park Avenue

  • Birchmount Road from Rolark Drive to Scarden Avenue

  • Finch Avenue East from Victoria Park Avenue to Pharmacy Avenue

  • Sheppard Avenue East from Brimley Road to Reidmount Avenue

  • Rural Avenue from Midland Avenue to Glen Watford Drive

School Bus Loading Zones

  • Ward 22 school bus loading zones are approximately 96 percent complete

These locations were prioritized to improve visibility, traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and emergency access.

Planned Snow Removal Over the Next 24 to 72 Hours

Crews are scheduled to begin or continue snow removal at the locations below over the next 24 to 72 hours, weather and operational conditions permitting. These represent initial work areas and operations may expand to nearby streets as equipment moves through the area.

Planned locations include:

  • Victoria Park Avenue between Highway 401 ramps

  • Warden Avenue between Highway 401 ramps and McNicoll Avenue

  • Steeles Avenue East between Kennedy Road and Midland Avenue

  • Finch Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Warden Avenue

  • Huntingwood Drive between Warden Avenue and Kittery Boulevard

  • Sheppard Avenue East between Victoria Park Avenue and Midland Avenue

  • McNicoll Avenue between Harold Evans Crescent and Pharmacy Avenue

  • Birchmount Road between Huntingwood Drive and Steeles Avenue East

  • Kennedy Road between Sheppard Avenue East and Highway 401 ramps

Planned locations and schedules remain subject to change based on site conditions, equipment availability, and weather. If new snowfall occurs, crews may be redirected to address immediate priorities.

How Locations Are Prioritized

Targeted snow removal focuses on streets where snow accumulation and windrows are limiting safety, accessibility, or mobility. Locations may also be prioritized based on validated 311 service requests and routine patrol observations by City staff.

Maintaining access for emergency vehicles and transit continues to be a key priority throughout operations.

What This Work Includes

Snow removal involves more than plowing. Crews are using front end loaders with buckets and blowers, along with dump trucks, to collect snow and transport it to City snow storage sites.

This work removes windrows left by plowing that can affect emergency access, traffic flow, pedestrian safety, transit operations, parking, and sightlines. Because snow is physically removed and hauled away, work progresses block by block and takes time to complete.

Resident Impacts and Parking Restrictions

The Major Snowstorm Condition remains in effect following the declaration on January 25.

Parking is temporarily prohibited on designated snow routes across the city, even if snow clearing or removal is not actively taking place on a specific block at a given time. These restrictions allow crews to work efficiently and help prevent delays caused by parked vehicles.

Ahead of snow removal activities, City staff make best efforts to notify residents through orange No Parking signage and door to door outreach requesting vehicles be moved from the roadway. Parking enforcement has been asked to prioritize areas where snow removal is underway. Vehicles that block operations may be relocated in accordance with City bylaws.

Residents may experience temporary noise disruptions, including overnight work. Road users are reminded to keep a safe distance from snow removal crews and equipment at all times.

Thank You and Next Update

I want to thank City staff and contracted snow removal crews for their long hours and hard work during extremely challenging winter conditions. Their efforts are essential to keeping our streets passable, sidewalks safer, and emergency routes accessible.

We will continue to share updates as snow removal progresses across Ward 22. Another ward level update will be posted as work continues.
